Rob Reiner's son feels 'anger and rage' over parents' deaths

Jake Reiner feels "anger and rage" over the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

The When Harry Met Sally filmmaker and his wife were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home in December, with their youngest son Nick Reiner subsequently charged with their murders, and his older brother admitted he will "never understand" the tragedy.

Speaking to ABC7 Los Angeles, Jake said: "[Nick]’s in jail. It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it’s just me and Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially.

“For me, it manifests into anger. It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened.

“I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.

“I’ll never understand. I don’t care how it’s explained to me. I don’t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened.”

Although Jake declined to discuss anything about Nick, he did confirm they haven't spoken since their parents deaths, and insisted Rob abd Michele "never stopped wanting to help" his brother, who had struggled with addiction and mental health issues.

The 34 year old insisted people cannot understand what he and sister Romy have been through over the last eight months.

He said: “Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it. It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.”

Romy, 28, found their parents' bodies, and Jake will never forget the call he received from her.

He said: “Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom.' I immediately went into shock.”

Earlier this month, it emerged Nick faced new charges after special circumstances were added to the case.

He has been indicted on two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. He also faces another special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon in the form of a knife.

The new charges replace the original murder charges filed against Nick last year, and emerged after the indictment, which was returned by a grand jury last month, was unsealed.
