Perth police officer pleads guilty to assaulting his five-week-old baby

A WA Police officer has been stood down and arrested over the assault of his five-week-old baby.

Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, faced Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday after he was charged with aggravated common assault.

The incident allegedly occurred in the eastern Perth suburb of Stratton on Saturday.

Peake appeared in person on Thursday, where the court was told there were protective conditions in place for his wife and child since the incident, and that he was now living with his parents in South Yunderup.

In a statement, WA Police said Peake was charged on Sunday by the child abuse squad after his five-week-old baby was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital “as a precaution”.

Peake will be back before the court on October 13 for sentencing. A pre-sentence report was ordered before the hearing.
