Alleged Coconut Cartel boss Iziah Utai taunts police on social media

Alleged Coconut Cartel boss Iziah Utai has taunted the NSW Police’s Raptor Squad in a fresh social media post showing him pointing a handgun at the camera while wearing a Toronto Raptors jersey and set to N.W.A.’s F**k Tha Police.

The Instagram story posted two days ago shows Utai and another man standing in front of a wall lined with firearms.

Utai is wearing a Toronto Raptors basketball jersey, in an apparent reference to the specialist NSW Police squad which has been targeting organised crime and gang violence.

A second post shows Utai sitting beside another man outdoors and carries the hashtag “#NoEffect”, with lyrics from the same anti-police song displayed across the image.

The post came a day after NSW police announced Raptor Squad officers had charged four people who allegedly travelled from Victoria to carry out criminal contracts linked to two shootings in Sydney earlier this month.

Police allege three men forced their way into a Hurstville home about 2.30am on August 31 before a gunshot was fired into a wall.

About 30 minutes later, officers were called to Turrella, where a parked vehicle had allegedly been shot at multiple times.

Following an investigation under Strike Force Fedora, a 22-year-old man, 23-year-old man, 26-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy were arrested in Victoria before being extradited to NSW.

They were charged with offences including participating in a criminal group and firing a firearm at a dwelling as part of organised criminal activity.

The Coconut Cartel and rival Alameddine network have been at the centre of an underworld conflict involving shootings and arson attacks across Sydney during 2026, with Raptor Squad among specialist police units responding to gang violence.

Innocent university student Marco Tapia was shot dead during a home invasion in Glen Alpine in Sydney’s south west earlier this month. Police said the Mr Tapia, 23 was the victim of mistaken identity.

Utai later took to his social media account to troll those responsible for the killing, posting “popped the wrong person”.

Utai, 24, is wanted by NSW Police for alleged criminal group offences connected to the fatal shooting of underworld figure Dawood Zakaria at Granville in Sydney’s west in May 2025.

Previous NewsWire reporting said Utai was believed to have left Australia soon after the alleged shooting and had since posted material purporting to show him overseas.
