Tragedy as man, 34, dies after being trapped under van in alleged hit-and-run in Carlingford

A pedestrian who became trapped in a van after an alleged hit-and-run in Sydney’s northwest has died.

Frederick Kipruto, 34, became trapped underneath a Nissan van on Ferndale Ave near Edinburgh Ave in Carlingford about 12.30pm Sunday.

The man was wedged under the van for some time before he was found and treated by paramedics.

He was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries but died on Thursday evening.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, relatives, friends, and the entire community during this very difficult time,” friend Maxwell Kiptanui Keter wrote on social media.

Police allege the driver of the van, Jacob Kurui, fled the scene and ran into bushland after hitting Mr Kipruto.

Mr Kurui allegedly refused to undergo a breath test at Castle Hill police station, and was taken to Hornsby Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.

He has since been charged with driving while disqualified, refusing to submit to breath test analysis and not giving details to police.

He appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Monday and was refused bail to reappear on September 17.
