Man fatally stabbed, woman injured after altercation outside Waterloo unit block in Sydney’s inner south
An altercation has ended in tragedy after a man was killed and a woman injured in Sydney’s inner south.
Emergency services were called to reports of an assault outside a unit block on Pitt St in Waterloo about 7.20pm on Tuesday.
A man was found with a stab wound to his torso and treated at the scene before being rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.
While he is yet to be formally identified, police believe he was aged in his 30s.
A woman, also aged in her 30s, was at the scene and suffered a minor head injury.
She was taken to the same hospital before being discharged later that night.
NSW Police Superintendent Andrew Garner said it was not yet clear how many people were involved in the altercation, while officers were still searching for the weapon.
Garner said police had ruled out domestic violence as a factor in the incident.
“It’s very traumatic for the community. Maybe you’re talking about someone’s son, brother, father, potentially,” he said.
A crime scene was established as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Pitt St about 7pm on Tuesday to come forward.
