Aussie icon Shannon Noll puts hand up as Tones and I clarifies NRL grand final situation

Australian rocker Shannon Noll has put his hand up to perform at the NRL grand final after the league ditched Tones and I .

While it was reported that Tones and I refused to commit to sing her biggest hit, Dance Monkey, the award-winning artist has since revealed that no deal was agreed.

Tones and I’s management said prior commitments were the reason and given she was only asked at the start of the month, it was too hard to make it happen.

She is set to join Macklemore for his American tour dates over the next six weeks.

“Tones was recently approached to perform the pre-show at the NRL grand final,” the statement read.

“Tones had a prior commitment with Macklemore in America and explored all avenues to make it work.

“Due to the last-minute nature and prior commitments by Tones, we were unable to accept the offer.

Rather than look to attract another big star to perform before the grand final at Accor Stadium on October 4, the NRL will instead direct the $1 million payment to junior rugby league.

But it appears the NRL have the option of Noll with the Aussie fan favourite keen to perform.

“Ready and willing,” he posted on Instagram, along with an AI image of himself.

Fans quickly flocked to the comment section calling on the NRL to make it happen.

Noll performed at the 2007 NRL grand final, alongside the Hoodoo Gurus and Vanessa Amorosi. He also performed at the State of Origin series in 2023.

Noll performed at Snow Machine in New Zealand earlier this month and has dates lined up this week in Victoria. He also has two dates locked in next week in Queensland, but is free for the Sunday night grand final.

Ahead of last year’s title deciders, ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys mocked the AFL’s choice of Snoop Dogg as grand final entertainment, calling the veteran rapper a “dog act” while promoting the NRL’s booking of another American performer Teddy Swims.
