Aussie actress Sheila Kennelly, original cast member of Home and Away, dies aged 88

Australian actress Sheila Kennelly has passed away at her Hunter Valley farm aged 88.

Kennelly was best known for her roles as Floss McPhee in the original Home and Away cast, as well as a barmaid Norma Whittaker in the 1970s classic No. 96 and the jolly Italian mother-in-law Rosa on Kingswood Country.

She had an acting career that spanned five decades across theatre and television.

“She was surrounded by her dogs and dear family who looked after her so lovingly in her last days,” film and TV historian Andrew Mercado said.

She attended the North Sydney Girls High School and trained at the Independent Theatre.

She had appearances and guest roles on A Country Practice, The Flying Doctors, Secret Valley and Glenview High during the 1980s.

In 1987, she was also offered a small role opposite Meryl Streep in the film Evil Angels, but turned it down to star in Home and Away.
