Star goalkicker Jesse Hogan let go by GWS Giants just two years after All-Australian season

Jesse Hogan is officially on the hunt for a new club after being let go by GWS just two years on from his Coleman Medal season.

The 31-year-old has had a torrid time since his 77-goal haul in 2024, having the following campaign disrupted by three separate injuries before playing just nine games this year.

Hogan missed multiple weeks with a hip injury then fractured his finger in his second game back and 100th for the club.

Season-ending surgery followed and his likely exit became clear over the ensuing months as the Giants prioritised Max Gruzewski.

GWS farewelled Hogan on Tuesday night alongside ruckman Kieren Briggs, a day after confirming Jake Stringer’s departure.

“Jesse has made a significant contribution to the Giants over the past six seasons, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything he has brought to our football club,” football boss Jason McCartney said.

“We’ve seen Jesse at his best in the orange and charcoal and know what he’s capable of when he’s able to play with consistency.

“However, as we look ahead, we believe this is the right time for Jesse to pursue a new opportunity while we continue to shape our forward line for the years ahead.

“Again, we’re thankful for everything he gave our club and we wish all the best with what comes next.”

Hogan was named All Australian and won the club’s best and fairest after his career-best 2024 campaign.

Turning 32 in February, the key forward has been linked to Collingwood, Gold Coast and Carlton.

All three are in need of a goalkicker after the Pies and Blues struggled to replace Brody Mihocek and Charlie Curnow respectively this year, while Suns star Ben King recently confirmed his exit ahead of a move to Hawthorn.

“Kieren has been a valued member of our playing group over a long period of time both on and off the field,” McCartney said.

“It’s always a tough time of the year when we need to say farewell to good people, but unfortunately we were not in a position to retain Kieren moving forward.
