PerthNow Pulse: Fremantle venue The Wray Hotel named city’s best footy pub
Fremantle’s Wray Hotel has been crowned Perth’s best footy pub after winning a fiercely contested public vote ahead of this weekend’s AFL Grand Final.
The Fremantle favourite took out the title following PerthNow Pulse’s search, with venue manager Vicky saying the win had left the team “ecstatic” and “super excited”.
She credited the pub’s passionate guests, staff and unmistakable Dockers atmosphere for making it the place to watch the footy.
“When I say people, it’s our guests, it’s our amazing team,” she said.
“It’s just not a game. It’s the theatre, it’s the dance, the sadness, the whole package. It’s just us being real Dockers fans.”
The Wray is preparing for a huge Grand Final weekend, with Vicky revealing the venue was booked out nearly five months in advance.
“We’re trying to accommodate as many people as we can, but again, we have to watch our licence.”
There will be plenty happening inside the packed venue on Grand Final Day, including the draw for a Yamaha bike and the Wray’s Wicked Wheel, where one lucky punter could win $1000.
Now, Vicky is hoping the Wray can cap off its PerthNow Pulse win with a Dockers premiership.
“If the Dockers win, it’s going to be a day to remember for everyone at the Wray,” she said.
