Alleged carjacker found asleep in stranger's bed after five-hour crime spree in Werribee, Victoria

A 14-year-old Werribee boy has returned home to find an alleged carjacker asleep in his mother’s bed, bringing an end to a five-hour crime spree that terrorised Melbourne’s west.

Stanley Taefu was arrested after the brave teenager discovered him sleeping in the stranger’s home and raised the alarm.

“He saw this very, very big man asleep in my bed. He slept with a cigarette and a knife,” victim Alesya Kuretskaya said.

The quick-thinking teen grabbed his phone, armed himself with a costume hammer and ran to safety.

“He has very big stress and shock, but he did a very, very good job,” Kuretskaya said.

The incident was the final chapter in an alleged five-hour crime spree police say was fuelled by ice.

Taefu is accused of carjacking an 88-year-old partially blind man, before dumping that vehicle and leaving a taser behind.

Barefoot and erratic, he then tried unsuccessfully to steal another car before targeting a grandmother, mother and baby.

CCTV footage shows him jumping into the driver’s seat, but instead of hitting the start button, he pressed the hazard lights and gave up.

“Pulled me out of the car, threatened to assault me, threatened to beat me up. I stood my ground and eventually he took off, jumped my back fence,” Blackwell said.

Exhausted, Taefu allegedly broke into Kuretskaya’s house, where he was found asleep.

Taefu applied for bail today, with the court hearing the New Zealand citizen has lived in Australia for four years but lost his warehouse job about a month ago, and that’s when he turned to methamphetamines.
