Australia slump with bat after Starc heroics in Mackay

Australia will aim to put pressure on the Bangladesh batters early in Mackay after Pat Cummins won the toss.

"The wicket looks pretty good but if there is any moisture in it then it might be this morning," captain Cummins said after asking Bangladesh to bat in the second Test.

Australia announced on match eve Queensland left-hander Matt Renshaw would open the batting after Jake Weatherald was axed.

Bangladesh made just one change to the side that won by nine wickets in Darwin with left-arm quick Shoriful Islam replacing Ebadot Hossain.

Shoriful has recovered from a side strain that kept him out of the first Test.

He captured six wickets in an ODI against Australia in June and worried the top order.

The pitch is expected to provide assistance for the spinners on day four and five, but curator Peter Kazakoff said the surface would have similar characteristics to what players are used to in Brisbane.

"We have got the same sort of clay as the Gabba, so we are expecting similar sort of characteristics to that."

AUSTRALIA XI: Travis Head, Matt Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (c), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

BANGLADESH XI: Tanzid Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Mehify Hasan Miraz, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain.
