Damien Shaw: Police say mum of kids found dead in Bali murder-suicide too traumatised to speak
The mother who raised the alarm before her two children and partner were found dead in a Bali bungalow is too traumatised to speak to police as investigators probe the suspected murder-suicide.
Perth man Damien John Shaw, 56, was found dead inside the Kuta property on Sunday morning alongside his six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.
Denpasar City Police First Police Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya told the ABC efforts to speak with Mr Shaw’s wife had been limited because she remained in “deep shock and grief”.
“Kuta Police are continuing their investigation, including forensic processing of the crime scene, reviewing CCTV footage from inside and outside the property, and interviewing witnesses,” he said.
The mother had raised the alarm after a phone call with her husband took a horrifying turn.
She reportedly heard her four-year-old daughter crying and saying “stop daddy” during the call.
She then contacted the bungalow manager and asked for an urgent welfare check.
When neighbours and staff could not get a response from the villa, they forced their way inside and discovered the three bodies.
The mother had flown from Bali to Jakarta about four days before the deaths.
Initial examinations by Indonesian police suggested the two children, Australian citizens, died after being smothered before Mr Shaw took his own life.
Mr Shaw, who was born in Fremantle and went to Melville Senior High School, spent several decades working int the maritime industry, according to his LinkedIn profile.
On Monday, The West Australian visited the childhood home where Mr Shaw’s brother Mark still resides.
