Lifely debuts extendable dining table system that transforms from compact six-seater to 12-seater in seconds

Now our homes are home to more than ever (work from home space, living quarters, home gym, playroom and bedroom, anyone?), we all need functional spaces that morph and shift as we use them.

The cult favourite has just launched a new dining solution designed for families who love to host without sacrificing valuable space.

Meet the Caterpillar Extendable Dining Suite ($1,699) , a table and bench system that transforms from a compact six-seater to a 10-12 seater in seconds, making it easy to accommodate everything from a weeknight dinner to a full house on the weekend.

Built from solid pine with a hidden rail beneath, the Caterpillar seats six in its compact form and extends to seat 10-12 guests, thanks to a smooth, single-motion mechanism that one person can operate alone.

Unlike traditional extendable tables , there’s nothing to lift, store or wrestle into place, meaning you’re always ready, for a quiet Tuesday dinner or a full house on the weekend.

The insight behind the design is simple: growing families don’t need a bigger table, they need a table that says yes to more.

More relatives dropping by, more friends staying for dinner, more kids squeezing in every Christmas.

“Everything we design at Lifely comes back to one idea: furniture that grows and adapts as an Australian family’s life changes,” said Jake Yap, CEO of Lifely.

“We didn’t want people choosing between a table that suits their space and one that suits their guest list, so we built a piece that does both, effortlessly. It’s the product philosophy behind everything we make.”

The first run of the Caterpillar sold out in just two weeks, with the second run now available for pre-order and shipping from 23 September.

Designed for smaller footprints and multifunctional living, the Caterpillar solves a problem most extension tables create: a permanently oversized piece, or a bulky table with spare panels nobody wants to dig out.

Its hidden, positive-locking slide mechanism transforms the table (and matching bench, available separately or as a set) from everyday-compact to guest-ready in seconds.

The matching Caterpillar Bench follows the same extendable design and can be purchased separately or as a set.

Both pieces are made from solid pine with a clean, modern Scandinavian-inspired design.
