Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame vandalised days after her death

About a week after the world was shocked by the death of queen of country music Dolly Parton , her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been found damaged.

Images and videos posted to social media on Monday, local time, shows Parton’s name on the star had been covered in dark markings after it became a location for fans to leave tributes for the 80-year-old .

One witness said a “custodian” cleaning the star claimed that a “woman kicked candles around then with the shards of one scratched the star”.

“Then a man came and stole the flowers that were there,” the witness added.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which manages the Walk of Fame, confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au a “fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalised with many scratches”.

“From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalised with scratches,” it said.

The chamber added the floral tributes for Parton were removed the prior morning to make way for scheduled repairs on Tuesday, local time.

“This repair was set up late last week and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs,” it said.

“The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars.

“The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”

In a post to social media, the Hollywood Historic Trust said it was “proud to honour the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star”.

The star is one of two dedicated to Parton along the storied Walk of Fame, the first added in 1984 for her achievements as a solo musician.

The second was awarded to her in 2019 alongside Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt for their work as a trio.

It comes after Parton was laid to rest beside her husband Carl Dean at a private memorial on Sunday.
