Brenda Song takes fashion tips from 'style icon' Mindy Kaling

The 38-year-old actress has revealed how Mindy, 47, and their Running Point castmate Kate Hudson, also 47, have impacted her own approach to fashion.

She told PEOPLE magazine: "Mindy comes into set in the most insane fits every day. Every day this woman comes in these fits where I’m like, 'I want to be like you when I grow up.'

"I’m an accessories girl... and her bag collection… her accessories collection is ridiculous. Every time I see her, it takes me a minute.

"I have to look at her. I was like, 'I’m looking you up and down. Not because I’m judging, but because I need to take everything in,' because I love everything she wears. She is a style icon."

When it comes to Kate, Brenda was blown away by the number of closets the AGe-year-old star actually has to chose from.

She said: "Every single day when Kate comes to work, Kate has a full ‘fit. Kate has nine closets.

"I was like, 'Kate, let’s be real. How many closets do you really have?' She’s like, 'A lot.' I was like, 'Can I just raid one? Can I just raid one?'

"Because she comes into rehearsal looking incredible. I draw so much inspiration from her because she’s extremely confident in her sense of style."

Brenda noted how Kate has "found what she loves", and finds a way to make it work no matter the occasion.

She added: "She’s like, 'This is my look, and I just have interchangeable pieces. It’s like a uniform.' I’m like, 'That’s brilliant.' "

Brenda, who has two sons with Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin, admitted she has learned to be "more confident" in her body since becoming a mother.

She said: "It’s been really inspiring for myself to be able to be like, 'Oh, I think I’m more willing to try new things now than I was five years ago.'

"But that’s the thing with fashion. It’s always evolving, and my own fashion sense is always evolving, and that’s okay.

"And so, I love taking pieces of my closet that I’ve had a long time and finding ways to update it and make it fresh and new. It’s my favourite thing to do. I love shopping my own closet."
