Bristol City striker's stunning backheel goal in England goes viral

Bristol City's Dom Ballard backheeled a goal to give his team the lead in its clash with Birmingham.

Many social media users are suggesting the Puskás Award for goal of the season may already be over.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw despite Ballard's incredible late effort.

Bristol City striker Dom Ballard scored an outrageous backheel volley against Birmingham in the Championship overnight, sparking social media users to suggest the goal of the year race may already be over.

With his back to goal, Ballard connected his heel perfectly with a Rio Cardines cross to send the ball flying into the top corner and give his side the lead in the 85th minute.

Birmingham would go on to score from the penalty spot to end the game in a draw, but all the talk was about Ballard's stunning goal.

"The fans were amazing and I ran straight to them when I scored which was an incredible feeling," Ballard said.

The goal saw the term Puskás Award trending on X, as users suggested the race for the best goal of the season was already done and dusted.

Despite the stunning effort, Ballard said he was disappointed with the result.

"We are disappointed with the result in the end as I thought we were the better team," he said.

"But everyone played their role well today and when you come to a new club, you want to hit the ground running so to get the goal today against a good Birmingham City side is great."
