Teen ‘kicked, stomped, stabbed’ in western Melbourne
A teenager has been stabbed, kicked and stomped on in western Melbourne during a brawl police say was sparked by an online dispute.
Mobile phone footage of the fight, in the suburb of Deer Park on Wednesday night, shows multiple females punching and kicking each other.
Images from the scene the next morning show a discarded kitchen knife and the plastic wrapping of a set of six knives strewn about Robert Bruce Reserve.
An 18-year-old woman was stabbed six times in the upper body and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Detective Acting Sergeant Ali Samie said the 18-year-old easily could have died.
“One millimetre in the wrong direction, we could be talking about a homicide,” he told reporters.
Police at this stage suspected a “feud online” sparked the confrontation, Sergeant Samie said.
“One of the victims was brutally assaulted. She was kicked to the head, stomped on and stabbed repeatedly by one or more of the offenders,” Sergeant Samie said.
“It’s outrageous that youths are out there wielding these knives and stabbing people.”
The group brawl broke out about 7.15pm on Wednesday at the park, some 20km west of the Melbourne CBD.
The fight spilt from the reserve into neighbouring streets. The footage shows multiple people holding knives, females striking and pulling each other by the hair, and lots of screaming.
As well as the footage circulated online, other people in the crowd were filming on their phones.
A police spokesperson said officers had been told another person was assaulted, but she did not require medical assistance. No arrests have yet been made.
