Radio show host Emma Chow breaks down live on air as husband battles chronic kidney disease

Sydney radio host Emma Chow has been brought to tears live on air as she revealed she was “trying to save my husband’s life”.

The 41-year-old host of 2DayFM’s breakfast show shared the emotional update on Thursday morning, saying her husband Enzo Lisbona urgently needs a kidney transplant.

“Just after Easter, we devastatingly lost two parents, and I’m now trying to save my husband’s life,” Chow read from a prepared script, referring to the deaths of Lisbona’s parents.

“Enzo has chronic kidney disease and he needs a live donor transplant.

Chow said the couple had been undergoing a series of tests over the past few months and were now waiting to find out whether she could be his donor.

“It’s the first time that I might finally be able to physically help him after years of feeling like all I could do was watch him suffer,” she said, fighting back tears.

Chow said she was also preparing herself for the possibility she might not be a match, while continuing to do everything she could to make Lisbona feel “safe and supported”.

“Going to every appointment, keeping things as chill as possible with the kids at home, cooking his comfort meals, snuggling on the couch as a family, and sometimes just listening,” she listed.

“In all honesty, I’m really tired and some days feel a lot harder to push through,” she said.

“But I keep reminding myself why this season is so important. It’s so Enzo can live a long, healthy life and watch our boys grow up.”

Chow eventually broke down in tears as she explained she had chosen to share such a personal experience in the hope of providing some comfort to others struggling with challenges in their own lives.

“The hardest part is that there’s no time to process the heavy stuff while also trying to continue moving forward with work, socialising, raising kids, or just being a present partner,” she said.

“I hope that you’re OK, and that someone is telling you that you’re doing a great job.

“I hope you have a handful of people around you who are your backbone.
