Fremantle receive good news about injury-prone Docker

Out-of-favour Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy remains a chance to feature in the club's premiership push after scans cleared him of a calf injury.

Darcy was once Fremantle's premier ruckman, but has now fallen to third in the pecking order after a calf injury earlier this year allowed Mason Cox to jump above him as the preferred back-up to Luke Jackson.

Fremantle look set for a long and fruitful finals campaign after securing the minor premiership and two home finals.

But Darcy's hopes of featuring suffered a major blow while playing for Peel Thunder in the WAFL on Saturday with the 28-year-old pulled out of the game after halftime due to another calf issue.

Dockers coach Justin Longmuir said Darcy has since received good news and is a chance to play for Peel Thunder this weekend or earn a call-up for Fremantle's clash with Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

"He got a scan and the scan's come back really positive," Longmuir said on Tuesday.

"We'll see how much he gets through today (at training), but it couldn't have been a much better scan.

"He was pretty frustrated (during the game), but he was a lot happier once he got a positive scan."

Darcy has been in blistering form in the WAFL over the past few weeks, but his recent scare means he is likely to stay there for now rather than earn a senior recall against the Blues.

The fact Darcy was twice grounded earlier this year by calf issues added to the anxiety of the latest incident, but Longmuir said the 134-game ruckman could have kept playing on the weekend.

"If that had been a final or grand final on the weekend we would have kept him out there and we would have played him," Longmuir said.

"It was his other calf to what he's had injuries on previously this year and it might have even been part of an old corky.

"So he could have pushed through and he would have pushed through, but we just took no risk on the weekend."

Longmuir confirmed skipper Alex Pearce had recovered well from a knock to the knee and would play against the Blues.
