Michael Douglas claims Danny DeVito swallowed marijuana joints during police stop

Michael Douglas' friend Danny DeVito swallowed marijuana joints to get the pair out of trouble during a police stop.

The 82-year-old actor revealed he was driving to a concert with his longtime friend Danny, 81, when they were pulled over by traffic cops for making an illegal left-hand turn - and Michael claims the Twins star got rid of their weed stash by eating it while his pal was talking to the officers at the side of the road.

During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Michael explained: "We were going to the concert, I made a left turn and then all of a sudden ... You can see the red lights are going and I go: 'Oh man'. And I get out of the car and I go back and I talk to the police officer.

"I remember I get back into the car and Danny ... Danny was with me and we had, you know ... a few joints. Danny was in the back seat.

"And I just looked at him, and said: 'Where's the grass?' And Danny smiled. All his mouth was entirely ... green ... he swallowed all of them!"

He added of his exploits with Danny: "I mean just these crazy stories. We had a great time."

Michael is currently busy promoting his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, which hit shelves this week and has already caused a sensation with revelations including the confirmation of his romance with Kathleen Turner, his secret affair with Jeanne Tripplehorn and the admission he was dating five other women at the time his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones wanted to make their relationship serious.

However, Catherine - the mother of Michael's children Dylan, 26, and 23-year-old Carys - has confessed she still hasn't read the book yet.

She told E! News: "I haven’t read the book. I just got my copy literally yesterday when it came out. Look, my husband’s colourful, fantastic career - he named the book One Helluva Ride, so you’ve got to hold onto that when you read it, I’d say.

Asked if she'd been surprised by any of the anecdotes that had generated headlines, she simply said: "No."

The Chicago actress went on to admit she couldn't be prouder of her spouse. She said: "He’s been writing his book for quite some time, during these last years I’ve been doing [Netflix show] Wednesday and [ Amazon Prime Video series] Kill Jackie, and I’m just happy for him. It’s a great legacy."
