Alkimos Sands Primary School: New primary school under construction in Perth’s north officially named

A $45.5 million public primary school currently being built in Alkimos has been given its official name: Alkimos Sands Primary School.

The school in the Alkimos Vista Estate has until now been referred to as Alkimos North East Primary School.

Located between Picasso Promenade, Masterpiece Boulevard, Watercolour Rise and Perspective Drive, the new campus is set to accommodate up to 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6 once it opens.

Construction on the school started last year and is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2027 school year.

Facilities will include an administration building, library, oval, three teaching blocks, a covered assembly building, carparking, and hardcourts.

Alkimos Sands PS is expected to ease enrolment pressure at nearby Shorehaven PS and Alkimos Beach PS.

Shorehaven PS opened in 2022 and had 824 students enrolled in semester one, 2026 — 174 above its planned permanent capacity of 650 students when it was announced in 2019 — while Alkimos Beach PS had 653 enrolled.

Nearby, Eglinton Beach PS, which opened only last year with a capacity for 620 students, already had 444 students enrolled in semester one, 2026.

Education Minister Sabine Winton said Alkimos Sands PS would help meet growing demand for public education in Perth’s northern suburbs.

“Alkimos Sands Primary School will give local children a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment to learn, grow and build lifelong friendships,” Ms Winton said.

“It’s exciting to see this new school taking shape, and I’m looking forward to meeting its staff and students when it opens its doors in term one, 2027.”

Butler MLA Lorna Clarke said she looked forward to seeing the new school open its doors to families.

“Alkimos Sands Primary School is huge for our community. It means that more families will have a school closer to home where their kids can learn and make friends,” Ms Clarke said.

“I speak to parents in my community all the time and education is one of their top priorities. As a mum, I know that education is the best way to set our kids up for the future.”
