Shock as 85yo Adelaide care home volunteer accused of knife attack

A nursing home has been left in shock after one of its elderly volunteers was arrested over an alleged knife attack.

Police claim that at about 9.40am on Friday, an 85-year-old man carried out an assault one a worker at St Hilarion Residential Care and Nursing Home in Seaton, near Adelaide.

The woman suffered upper body injuries, including to her neck, and is recovering in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The suspect was taken to the same hospital after suffering injuries to his neck and arms described by authorities as “self-inflicted”.

None of the injuries suffered by either party are believed to have suffered life-threatening.

South Australia Police confirmed late on Friday that the volunteer had been arrested and is due to undergo a medical assessment before further action is taken.

No residents of the nursing home were hurt in the incident, which saw police allegedly confiscate a Stanley knife from the scene.
