Aussie rock icon Angry Anderson has died aged 79
Australian rock icon Angry Anderson has died aged 79, just weeks after being hospitalised following a cardiac arrest.
The frontman of Rose Tattoo died on Monday evening “surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia”, according to a statement posted to the band’s social media page on Wednesday.
“Angry was a devoted father and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates, and the wider music and entertainment community,” the statement read.
“His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.
“The family and band members are asking for privacy at this difficult time and will not be giving interviews.
“We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take time they need to grieve.
“We thank everyone for their (prayers) and messages of love and continued support.”
The family released a statement that day saying it was comforting to know so many people were thinking of the Australian rock icon.
“Your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes mean more to Angry and his family than we can express,” they said.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and ask that you continue to keep Angry and his family in your thoughts and prayersduring the days ahead.
“We are incredibly grateful for the love and support that has already been shown.”
Born Gary Anderson in Melbourne on August 5, 1947, he had been with Rose Tattoo since 1976, and had hits such as Bad Boy for Love, Rock‘n’Roll Outlaw, and Nice Boys.
He released a solo single Suddenly in 1985, that became a hit after it was used as the wedding song for Scott and Charlene – played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue – in Neighbours.
He also had a role in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome playing Ironbar Bassey that year.
