Liverpool telco worker, 30, charged with selling customer details to criminal gangs

A southwest Sydney telco worker will face court accused of plying criminal gangs with the personal information of customers – helping them swindle innocent victims.

The Liverpool man, 30, was arrested by police on Thursday following a month-long investigation.

NSW Police allege the man, who works for a major telecommunications provider, unlawfully accessed customer records through his employment, before selling the data to a third party.

“Police will allege the stolen information was then used by criminal groups to commit fraud offences against multiple victims,” police said in a statement.

The investigation by NSW Police’s Financial Crimes Squad was launched last month after a referral was made by colleagues across the border in Queensland.

He has since been charged with 34 offences, including:• 12 counts of dealing with identity information to commit an indictable offence

• 12 counts of unauthorised function with intent to commit a serious offence

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Thursday.
