Questions raised after ‘private’ details aired in interviews with Jules Neale and Tess Crosley

Caroline Wilson has questioned the timing and purpose of “so-called tell-all” interviews given by Jules Neale and Tess Crosley after their public fallout.

The pair were best friends until the alleged cheating scandal involving Neale’s estranged husband Lachie late last year, who stepped down as Brisbane Lions captain as a result.

Jules took the kids she co-parents with the Lions midfielder back to her home state of Western Australia in the wake of the scandal, and Lachie has since been pictured publicly with a new flame.

Both Jules and Crosley had remained silent until they both appeared on separate podcasts in consecutive days last week, with Jules claiming the affair had gone on for four months before she found out.

Wilson said she took both of the interviews in before forming an opinion, but came to the view that she couldn’t understand “why either woman chose to do them, who was advising them, or what they thought it would achieve”.

“I make absolutely no comment on the deeply private details, which went so very public last week with all that extraordinary detail,” she told The Agenda Setters on Monday night.

“Nor do I have any view on whether this will affect Lachie Neale or whether I care whether it affects Brisbane’s finals campaign. Nor do I have any particular sympathy for Lachie Neale at this stage, nor am I taking sides in any way at all.

“But I say again to these two women who, by increments last summer, broke the story themselves on social media of this big marriage breakup — why, in an era when social media and their hits reign supreme, why they chose to communicate their private lives in this way?”

Brisbane has denied trying to rewrite the story following Jules Neale’s revelations, in which she reportedly said the club wanted her to communicate differently in the immediate aftermath of the scandal.

Wilson suggested the pressure may have come from an external management source rather than the club itself.

The Lions learned of the Jules podcast through Neale’s manager, who is in active talks with multiple clubs about the dual premiership player’s future.

Jules said Crosley was her best friend and had a four-month affair with Lachie “behind my back”. Crosley then said Jules had broken an agreement.

“I thought we sort of made the unanimous decision not to make any comments publicly at all,” Crosley told the The Debrief podcast released on Thursday.
