Beau Lamarre-Condon: Family of Jesse Baird front accused killer in court

The mother and sister of a man allegedly murdered by his ex-partner and former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon have taken to the stand on the second day of his trial.

Jesse Baird, 26, was allegedly shot and killed at his home in Paddington alongside new boyfriend Luke Davies, 29, by Lamarre-Condon in February 2024.

Lamarre-Condon is currently before the Supreme Court in Sydney accused of the double murder, which his barrister has claimed was an act of self-defence .

The Crown alleges that the former police officer killed the pair after becoming “obsessed” with Baird, whom he had dated on and off throughout 2023 before they split permanently in November.

Baird’s mother Helen and sister Kourtnee were both called to the stand on Tuesday to testify about his recounts of the pair’s separation and in the lead-up to his alleged murder.

Helen was almost brought to tears early into being questioned by prosecuting barrister Brett Hatfield, remembering how she and her son used to speak regularly.

She said that Baird told her that he didn’t want to enter a serious relationship with Lamarre-Condon and didn’t want to see him again.

Helen also agreed that the former police officer had become “obsessed” with her son.

Baird travelled to the family home in Victoria for the Christmas holidays that year and had an extensive talk with Kourtnee about his ex-boyfriend.

Kourtnee told the court that her brother had grown “fearful” of Lamarre-Condon and sounded “very erratic ... shocked”.

“(Lamarre-Condon) was a NSW police officer, he had access to a weapon, a gun,” she said.

“(Baird) said that he would go on his phone and block contacts from (Baird’s) male friends.

Kourtnee told the court that Lamarre-Condon had been pretending to be in a relationship with Baird on social media, posting images of flowers that he claimed Baird had sent him.

Baird had also received a number of text messages from his ex-partner which allegedly featured him seeing him in public, Kourtnee told the court.
