West Coast make call on Harley Reid's suspension

West Coast will challenge Harley Reid's two-game suspension in a bid to have the aggressive midfielder available for the start of the 2027 season.

The former No.1 draft pick was banned for laying a heavy tackle on Hawthorn co-captain Jai Newcombe during the Eagles' last-round loss against the Hawks on Sunday night.

Match review officer Michael Christian graded the incident as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.

Already facing questions around his discipline for giving away the most free kicks (69) of any player in the AFL this year, Reid will miss the first two games of next season if the Eagles' challenge is unsuccessful.

West Coast will also challenge defender Brandon Starcevich's $1500 fine for umpire contact via written submission.
