Former teacher Tayla Brailey’s question before sexually touching student: court
A former teacher added a student on social media and asked him “do you like what you see” before asking him to send her a sexually explicit photo, a court has been told.
Tayla Brailey, 32, has pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old, sexually touching the teen, and using a carriage service to access child abuse material (CAM).
She has also admitted to sexually touching a 16-year-old and transmitting child abuse matter to herself via a carriage service.
Brailey added the younger student on social media and they liked each others posts, the NSW District Court was told during a sentence hearing on Tuesday morning.
“The offender instigated the chat … by asking ‘Do you like what you see? I see you liking my photos’, to which (the student) responded ‘Yeah I do’,” the prosecutor told the court.
During a phone call, Brailey told the student she was going to take a shower and then sent him a photo of a reflection of herself in the shower before asking that he send her a sexually explicit photo, which he did.
She later asked the student to meet her at which time she went on to kiss him and sexually touch him, the court was told.
The student left shortly afterwards and Brailey blocked him on social media.
The prosecutor said in both cases there was no force, threats, or lack of consent, but the offending involved a breach of trust.
Brailey had told the boys “not to tell anyone” and to “delete conversations”, the prosecutor told the court.
The former teacher’s communication with the 17-year-old boy began when he added her on Snapchat, the prosecutor told the court, with Brailey telling him not to tell anyone they were chatting as she could get in trouble.
Their conversations began as non-sexual but things took a turn at some point, with the pair exchanging sexually explicit photographs.
At some point Brailey sent the boy a photograph of herself to which the teen replied: “Let’s go somewhere.”
They later met at a secluded address before having sex in the teen’s car, the prosecutor said.
