Colombian nurse marries BUS in bizarre ceremony as she reveals fears their relationship may end by 2028
She fell in love, found her soulmate, and even said ‘I do’ — but one Colombian woman would stun the world years later after revealing her dear spouse is actually a bus.
Colombian nurse Yeline Patino is a 35-year-old woman who experiences mechanophilia, a paraphilia involving sexual attraction to vehicles.
While she first harboured romantic feelings for a bus at 10 years old, the nurse continued dating men and having boyfriends through her teen and adult years — however, that all changed four years ago.
For Ms Patino, it was love at first sight when she saw TransMilenio bus route 60 while on holiday in Bogota in 2022.
“It felt like such a real encounter, and even I didn’t realise at the time that my love for the bus was so genuine,” she said.
Within a year, she’d packed up all her belongings and began a relationship with the very TransMilenio bus she “fell hard for”.
“It was a childhood love — a bond akin to a marriage that had lasted nearly 20 years,” she said.
“I decided to start a relationship with it . . . its structure, colour, and material captivated me — it is, dare I say, my reason for living.”
Ms Patino took her love to the next level in October 2024 after marrying the red articulated bus in a now-viral ceremony.
“We held it in secret, as I did not want to reveal it to the world at the time,” she said.
While no government-issued marriage license was signed given the groom’s status as a vehicle, Ms Patino says she has a paper that “certifies” the union and even a shiny ‘wedding’ ring gifted from a friend.
She quit her job after the ceremony and began working as a night cleaner at the same bus depot where her dear spouse spends his off-time.
While she has privately enjoyed her new life as a ‘bus wife’ by writing love songs for the vehicle and even getting a tattoo of it, Ms Patino has only just revealed details of the union amid fears that the couple’s future is in jeopardy.
“I made this public for one reason only: I am terrified – truly terrified – that TransMilenio will cancel that route,” she said.
