Chippy, sales assistant accused of cold-case murder

A carpenter and a sales assistant will remain behind bars after a missing person's remains were allegedly found on a suburban property.

Courtenay Williams, 52, and Carlie Rochelle Mordue, 45, have been accused of murdering Chad Steven Bishop, more than four years after he went missing.

The duo were also charged with interfering with a corpse after human remains were allegedly found during a police search of a Bethania property south of Brisbane on Monday.

Mr Bishop was 46 when last seen in March 2022 at Beenleigh, south of Brisbane.

Williams, a chippy, and Mordue, who works in sales, were not required to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday when their cases were briefly mentioned for the first time.

Police allege they murdered Mr Bishop in a Beenleigh townhouse on or about March 2, 2022, according to court documents.

A three-week adjournment was sought by Williams's solicitor Madeline Jacks on Tuesday.

"There's no bail application given the nature of the charges," Ms Jacks said.

Defendants in Queensland facing charges carrying a possible life sentence can only apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

Mordue's solicitor Kate Bassett also sought an adjournment for her client.

Magistrate Belinda Merrin adjourned both cases to September 7 at Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Williams and Mordue were both remanded in custody to appear by videolink at the next mention.
