Despite the best efforts of bystanders and paramedics, Griffin died at the scene.

The team had lost it’s grand final the day prior and were celebrating the end of a long football season at the time.

His teammate John Ryan, 20, has since been accused of driving the quad bike at the time and charged with negligent and dangerous driving causing death .

Regional footy clubs across southern New South Wales are in mourning, remembering a “spirited young man who was loved by so many”.

The Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club and CDHBU Power Football Club paid tribute to Griffin and his family and friends who “face a heartbreak no-one should ever have to endure”.

The tragedy occurred just two days after Griffin and his team had lost their grand final.

Ryan appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court with his parents by his side on Wednesday , when he was granted conditional bail.
