Geely Emgrand L EM-i PHEV sedan locked in for Australia alongside two new SUVs

Geely plans to double the size of its Australian lineup in 2027, with the Emgrand L EM-i confirmed as its first sedan since its local relaunch and another two SUVs set to join it.

The Geely Emgrand L EM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan will be exhibited at the Everything Electric Show in Sydney, being held from September 18 to 20, ahead of a local launch during the first half of 2027.

Geely has also confirmed it will give visitors to the show a “sneak preview at what’s to come” with another two new SUV models which will also be launched in 2027.

While the Chinese brand hasn’t confirmed nameplates for these SUVs, Geely has previously hinted which models it will bring in.

"I want to say [in] H1 2027 we will have a big five-seat [SUV], and we will try to bring a seven-seat [SUV]. In H2 we will bring the 'box-style' [SUV] models," Geely Australia managing director and Geely Auto vice president Alex Gu told Australian media in April 2026 .

Geely's local boss confirmed next year's new models will all be 'new energy' or "plug-in [hybrid] and BEV" vehicles.

Specifications for the Emgrand L EM-i have yet to be announced, though the related Chinese-market Starshine 6 uses a naturally aspirated 82kW/136Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated with a 120kW/210Nm electric motor and either an 8.5kWh or 17kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the latter of which can be charged at up to 35kW.

It measures 4806mm long, 1886mm wide and 1490mm tall on a 2756mm wheelbase. That makes it 96mm longer, 61mm wider and 70mm taller than a Hyundai i30 Sedan on a 36mm longer wheelbase, and makes it slightly smaller than a Toyota Camry overall.

The company is expected to bring a plug-in hybrid version of its Monjaro SUV, which has already been confirmed for the UK market.

Using a name claimed to be inspired by Mount Kilimanjaro, the large SUV features car-like unibody construction.

While the Monjaro has been in production since 2021, a PHEV version was only announced for global markets this year, with Egypt the first export market.

It uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain, offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. Geely's international site lists total system outputs of up to 250kW and 667Nm, with an electric range of up to 130km on the NEDC cycle and total combined NEDC range of up to 1200km.

The Monjaro measures 4800mm long, 1895mm wide and 1700mm tall on a 2845mm wheelbase, making it 80mm longer, 33mm wider and 51mm lower than a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV . Despite its larger footprint, the Monjaro can only be had with five seats, as with the (also mid-size) Starray EM-i already sold here.
