WA news LIVE: Murder charge laid over alleged days-long domestic violence assault in St James
A 38-year-old man is due to appear in court on Friday charged with murder after allegedly subjecting his partner to a days-long assault that ultimately ended in her death.
Police on Friday confirmed the 38-year-old had been charged, having been taken into custody after emergency services rushed to a home on Taree Street in St James about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
A 28-year-old woman was found unresponsive with critical injuries at the home, and was rushed by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital where she was declared dead.
“It will be alleged the accused assaulted the woman in the days prior to her death, causing extensive injuries which resulted in her death,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
“Police will allege the offending occurred in the context of a family and domestic relationship.”
The man will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday. We’ll bring you more from court later today.
