Christina Applegate smiles in first video since hospitalisation

Christina Applegate has made her first appearance since her hospitalisation in a new video on Instagram.

The 54-year-old actress - who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 - was admitted to a Los Angeles medical centre in March this year, and is believed to have been discharged in August.

Now the Dead to Me star her delighted fans with a new clip, in which she showed off her freshly dyed hair, alongside an unfortunate pimple.

Christina wore a grey and black vest top underneath a black hoodie for the video, teamed with jeans and a beaming smile.

She added in the caption: “Fresh hair color, new weird spot on my cheek haha thank you @davestanwell for brightening up my cloudy day.

Many of Christina’s celebrity pals took to the comments section to praise the screen star, with Henry Winkler calling her “truly powerful”, while Octavia Spencer and Andy Cohen both used fire emojis in response to the actress’ new ‘do.

It remains unclear whether or not Christina’s prolonged hospital stay was related to her MS battle

However, after her hospital stay was first reported, Christina thanked fans for their well wishes and declared she is "getting stronger" every day.

In a post on Instagram, she wrote: "Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day.

"I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough."

Christina, known for her roles in a string of television and film projects including Married … With Children, has previously spoken publicly about the condition through interviews and her podcast, MesSy, which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

A source told the Daily Mail: “With every setback, if we are being realistic, everyone has it in the back of their minds that they might not have a tomorrow with her. “Christina is a fighter, but her battle with MS has been treacherous. She has better days and really bad days – she doesn’t have great days. She’s always dealing with something. It sucks."

The source concluded: “But when she does look at things positively it makes her feel better in the moment because she has so many friends that are there for her, even to listen to her, cry with her and anything in between."
