Teens charged with striking crocodile with metal pole at Perth Zoo

Two teens have risked life and limb to break into a crocodile pen and strike a large reptile with a metal pole, police allege.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, are accused of getting into Perth Zoo about 7.15pm on Sunday, when it was closed, before cutting the locks to the croc enclosure.

They then entered and struck the popular attraction with a metal pole, police allege.

“CCTV cameras inside the enclosure captured the pair before it is alleged the males damaged both cameras by removing them from the wall,” WA Police said.

“The pair then left the enclosure and the zoo, before the matter was reported to police the following morning.”

The two boys were arrested on Monday and have each been charged with two counts of criminal damage or destruction of property, trespass and animal cruelty.
