AFL great Brendan Fevola shares update on nasty injury suffered in Legends Game

AFL great Brendan Fevola says he is struggling to move his leg and is fearful he might not play football again after the nasty injury he suffered during Thursday night’s Legends Game at Marvel Stadium.

The incident happened early in the battle between the Vics and the All-Stars, when Fevola’s radio colleague Nick Cody awkwardly landed on Fevola’s leg as the former Carlton champion took a brilliant diving mark.

Fevola, who still plays a lot of local football, says he thinks he has a partially torn quad tendon but is concerned because his other knee “is cooked”.

“When it happened, I didn’t see Nick because he was behind me … but I felt a pop,” Fevola said on his radio show The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick.

“I thought, ‘Uh oh.’ I don’t think I’ve ever played a footy game where I’ve marked a ball and gave away a goal … that’s when I knew I was in trouble. I thought, ‘I can’t kick this, I can’t get up.’ I was in a bit of shock because it swelled up pretty quick.”

Fevola: “I bum crawled my way to the boundary line like a man that had lost all his dignity. I couldn’t actually feel my quad. I was like, ‘I can’t move.’”

He said he was getting a scan to assess the damage and was also going to get his other knee looked at.

“I did tell the doc that my other knee is cooked, so I’m going in for a double scan and will probably need a double operation,” Fevola said.

Fevola said his wife, Alex, and daughter Tobi, were quite upset by the injury but he gave a drive-by to his other daughters.

“I was in the medivac and Leni, Lulu and Mia all had their phones out, filming me, and TikToking the crap out of it. Every step.

“We’re on the way home and Lulu was like, ‘I have 400 new TikTok followers, thanks Dad!’

“I won’t be able to play footy again, it’s career ending (but at least she’s got some new followers).”
