Craig McRae outlines club culture for ‘good husbands’ amid Swans probe
Craig McRae said Collingwood set their “responsibilities and values daily without having to make a grandstand meeting” in the wake of the Sydney Swans sexual assault probe.
The Swans announced on Wednesday morning that Riley Bice, Nick Blakey, Isaac Heeney, James Jordon and Chad Warner had been wiped out for the season as the club wrapped up its investigation into a late-night incident at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne on Sunday.
Swans bosses said the suspensions related to the players’ decision to continue drinking late into the night and bring women back to the hotel.
It’s believed a perceived breach of personal boundaries is at the centre of the police investigation.
When McRae was questioned on the matter at his weekly press conference on Wednesday morning, he said Collingwood was “very organic” in how the club wanted its players to act.
“We want our players to act like effective men in society and develop our players to be good husbands in the future and good fathers,” he said.
“I think you set those responsibilities and values daily without having to make a grandstand meeting around those things.”
Sydney’s investigation is separate from an ongoing Victorian sexual crimes squad investigation.
None of the five players have been formally interviewed by police but have reportedly spoken to investigators.
