Cher's son's wife says singer's conservatorship would 'demoralise' her husband

The wife of Cher’s son Elijah Blue has insisted the singer’s attempts to impose a conservatorship would “demoralise” the 50-year-old.

Elijah was arrested earlier this year, after which his siblings Devon Allman and Chaz Bono requested to be appointed his guardians - with the move made without the knowledge of Elijah’s wife Marieangela King Allman, she alleged.

Marieangela claims she only found out about their bid when a court in New Hampshire agreed to make them conservators if they posted a bond.

She’s now asking the court to consider appointing her as Elijah’s guardian, stating: “I strongly believe that Elijah needs robust, long-term treatment plan to deal with these issues, and appointment of conservator, selected by his mother, from whom he has been estranged for years, wherein her removing his autonomy against his wishes, would demoralise him, thereby jeopardising his recovery.”

Marieangela added that Elijah, the son of Cher and the late Allman Brothers singer Gregg Allman, had “vehemently opposed” the idea of Cher becoming his conservator, when she filed papers to be considered for the role back in April.

She added: “I am extremely concerned that appointment of conservator hand selected by [Cher] is equally not in Elijah's best interests and will be viewed by Elijah as further punishment and an effort to interfere with his autonomy, rather than an attempt to help him.”

Marieangela also opened up about the “challenges” the pair had experienced in their marriage, “many of which were related to his struggles with substance abuse, mental health issues and the consequences that followed”.

She and Elijah tied the knot in 2013, before she filed for divorce in 2021 - saying in the new court papers that she had been "emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, and believed separation was necessary” at the time.

She then filed for divorce for the second time in April 2025, before asking a court to dismiss the filing in June 2026 - with the judge agreeing to do so.

The next hearing in the conservatorship case will take place on September 1.
