2027 Mitsubishi Pajero reveal date confirmed

Mitsubishi has confirmed the global reveal date for the new-generation Pajero SUV, ahead of its arrival in Australian showrooms by the end of 2026.

The fifth-generation Pajero will be unveiled on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

In announcing the date, Mitsubishi didn't disclose any additional information on the new Pajero. It'll represent the return of the iconic nameplate after a five-year absence, following the end of production of the fourth-generation model in 2021 after 15 years.

The new SUV not only resurrects the Pajero nameplate but will also effectively replace the Pajero Sport . Australian imports of the off-road SUV, based on the previous-generation Triton , ended in 2025, leaving the Outlander as the largest SUV in Mitsubishi's local lineup.

Key rivals for the new Pajero include the Isuzu MU-X , currently priced from $49,900 before on-road costs, the Ford Everest from $58,990 plus on-roads, and the Toyota LandCruiser Prado from $73,200 plus on-roads.

Local pricing for the Pajero is expected to be announced after its September 2 reveal, with both five- and seven-seat versions set to be offered.

Australian government homologation filings show the Pajero will be offered in six variants across four familiar grades – GLX, GLS, Exceed and GSR – with the GLS and Exceed expected to be available in both five- and seven-seat configurations.

Spy shots and teaser images have shown a more rugged, boxier Pajero, which is expected to follow the Everest and Prado by returning to off-road-focused ladder-frame construction for the first time in two generations.

The more rigid, off-road-capable underpinnings are expected to be derived from the current Mitsubishi Triton ute, which is built at the same Thailand factory set to produce the new Pajero.

This should endow the Pajero with significant off-road capability, as demonstrated by the flagship Triton Raider launched earlier this year, though the Pajero is expected to use a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension setup.

It’s a similar approach to the Everest, which shares its ladder-frame architecture with the Ford Ranger but uses a Watts-link coil-spring rear suspension configuration instead of the Ranger’s leaf springs.

Mitsubishi has confirmed the Pajero will use the latest iteration of its Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) full-time four-wheel drive system, which is more sophisticated than the Super Select II system used by the Pajero Sport.

The Triton is also expected to provide the new Pajero’s engine, with its 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder producing 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque.
