Confirmed: Ram 1500 TRX coming back to Australia with more powerful supercharged V8

The Ram 1500 TRX SRT will become the first Hemi V8-powered Ram 1500 available in Australia in more than two years when the high-performance ‘apex predator’ returns to showrooms Down Under in early 2027.

Ram Trucks Australia has today confirmed the newly named, more powerful MY27 TRX SRT flagship will be locally converted to right-hand drive and made available in Australia and New Zealand, where almost 1000 examples of the first-generation Ram 1500 TRX were sold between mid-2022 and late 2025.

Local performance figures are yet to be confirmed, but in the US the upgraded TRX packs a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 petrol engine delivering 777hp (579kW) and 680 lb-ft (922Nm) of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.

That's enough to give the latest TRX a claimed 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of 3.5 seconds, a standing quarter-mile (402m) time of 12.2 seconds, and a 190km/h top speed, which Ram Trucks USA claims makes it “the fastest production gas [petrol] off-road truck ever”.

Released in the US in January, the upgraded TRX makes more power than the 530kW/868Nm Ford F-150 Raptor R, which is not sold here, and will take over from the 313kW/624Nm Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 as the most powerful full-size V8 pickup in Australian showrooms.

The fire-breathing Ram will be priced accordingly, at $259,950 before on-road costs – a $10,000 increase over the 523kW/882Nm TRX Final Edition that saw off the previous model in Australia in 2024, when the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 was replaced by the twin-turbo 3.0-litre ‘Hurricane’ inline six in the standard Ram 1500 lineup for MY25.

It’s also exactly $100,000 more than the highest-priced Ram 1500 currently available in Australia, the Hurricane HO-powered Limited priced at $159,950 before on-roads.

Australia's last V8-powered Ram 1500 was converted by Walkinshaw Automotive in Melbourne in December 2024, after V8-powered 1500 models globally – including the TRX – were discontinued amid ever-tightening emissions standards around the world.

Yet the TRX made a somewhat unexpected return, after being “revived under new management by Ram Trucks USA for the North American market in January 2026”, according to a statement from Ram Trucks Australia.

“We know there is a lot of passion for the TRX in Australia, which is why we have worked hard to secure production out of the US for our market,” said Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber.

"Supply of the new TRX will initially be restricted because demand is off the charts in the US, however, the factory has been incredibly supportive of the Australian market, and we are pleased to confirm the TRX is coming back.”

Ram Trucks Australia has also expressed interest in the V8-powered Rumble Bee , which was revealed in June 2026. If it's made available here, there could be as many as three V8 Ram models on sale in Australia next year.

This includes the larger Ram 2500 Warlock , which is powered by a 305kW/582Nm 6.4-litre ‘Apache’ petrol V8, and received Australian Design Rule certification earlier this month .
