Detectives investigating terrifying encounter after young girl ‘grabbed from behind’ by a stranger in Collie

Detectives are investigating a terrifying encounter in the South West where a young girl was “grabbed from behind” before she managed to escape to safety.

The incident occurred on a path adjacent to the Collie River, near Gladstone Crescent in Collie, about 5pm on Friday.

It is understood the girl was approached from behind by an unknown person before she was grabbed.

A police spokeswoman said Bunbury detectives were working to identify the person who approached the girl.

“The unknown individual is believed to be male and was wearing black shoes at the time of the incident,” she said.

Detectives are urging anyone with information or with footage from nearby homes, including CCTV or dash-cam from cars, to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

Collie is a regional town in the South West region, approximately 190km south of Perth.

The town has previously made headlines over the unsolved disappearance of school girl Lisa Mott in October, 1980.
