Wearable technology seems to be here to stay and people want to do more than count steps, and the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring is making a strong case for swapping a bulky smartwatch for something considerably smaller.

Currently priced at $449 on Amazon Australia , the smart ring is designed to be worn around the clock, with a suite of health and sleep tracking features packed into its slim profile.

RingConn says the Gen 2 uses AI-powered technology to track sleep apnea and provide real-time Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) data through its dedicated app, giving users a closer look at what is happening during the night.

The company says the technology was developed with leading universities and hospitals, with the ring designed to provide personalised sleep insights without the need for traditional sleep-monitoring equipment.

While sleep apnea monitoring is the feature likely to attract the most attention, the RingConn Gen 2 goes considerably further.

It can monitor activity, sleep, stress, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV) and blood oxygen saturation, giving users a broad snapshot of their daily health and wellbeing.

The companion app is designed to turn that data into personalised insights , while over-the-air updates mean the ring can receive improvements and new features over time.

For anyone who has abandoned a wearable because they do not want another screen demanding attention , the ring’s discreet design could also be part of its appeal.

RingConn says the Gen 2 has been redesigned to be thinner , lighter and more comfortable, making it suitable for continuous wear. It is also water resistant to 100 metres, so it can be worn during workouts, daily activities and swimming.

The company claims the ring can last for up to 10 to 12 days on a single charge, depending on the ring size, with larger sizes 12 to 14 offering up to 12 days of battery life.

It also comes with a smart charging case, which RingConn says can extend the overall charging capacity to more than 150 days.
