Residents urged to check yards, sheds and cars in search for missing man with dementia in WA town

An elderly Western Australian man is missing in the agricultural town of Wagin, about 225km southeast of Perth in the state’s Wheatbelt region.

James Ballantyne, 87, was last seen going for a walk on Leonora St about 10.30am on Saturday.

“Ballantyne lives with dementia and may be unable to find his way home,” WA Police said on Sunday.

Police believe that Ballantyne may have sought shelter in the area overnight.

“Police are urging residents in the area to check their backyards, sheds and vehicles,” police said.

Ballantyne is described as being 183cm tall, and of a medium build, with short greying hair. He was last seen wearing a navy blue jumper and khaki pants.

Anyone who has information about Ballantyne’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
