Carrot Top recovering in hospital after ‘suicide attempt’
Carrot Top has been hospitalised in Las Vegas after a reported suicide attempt forced the cancellation of his long-running show at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
The 61-year-old comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was taken to a local hospital on Friday (18.09.26) after an incident in the Las Vegas area, according to TMZ.
The outlet reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the situation, that Scott had attempted suicide.
His scheduled 8pm performance at the Luxor was subsequently cancelled.
Scott’s representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed the comic was receiving treatment in hospital but did not confirm TMZ’s account of what had led to his admission.
Jami told the outlet: “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
Page Six also reported the hospitalisation, saying Jami had confirmed Scott was receiving care while declining to address the circumstances surrounding the incident.
TMZ subsequently reported police had been seen at Scott’s Las Vegas home on Friday afternoon.
The outlet published a photograph which it said had been supplied by a witness and showed three police vehicles outside the property.
The incident interrupts one of the most enduring comedy residencies on the Las Vegas Strip.
Scott has been a fixture at the Luxor since 2005, performing his distinctive prop-heavy comedy routine for audiences for more than two decades.
The MGM Resorts website describes his act as an ever-changing mixture of pop culture, music and current events, built around the elaborate homemade props that became his trademark alongside his unmistakable bright red hair.
His regular performances are staged at the Atrium Showroom, with the Luxor continuing to advertise dates extending into 2027.
Before Friday’s cancellation, Scott had been scheduled to perform at 8pm.
