Horror as boy, 9, drowns after entering drain pipe in Weir, NT
A little boy who disappeared down a drainpipe while swimming at a weir in outback Australia has been found dead by police divers.
Police were told the nine-year-old boy had entered a drainpipe at the Katherine Low Level, just south of Katherine, NT, at about 5.15pm on Tuesday.
The young boy’s family held a vigil at the scene as police and a team of divers desperately searched for him.
NT Police Commander Neil Hayes said the incident was “an incredibly tragic incident, and we are providing welfare to the attending members”.
