Boy, 13, arrested following alleged attempted sexual assault in Kooyong after dogs filmed chasing him away

A boy has been arrested over an alleged attempted sexual assault against two women, whose dogs were filmed chasing him away during the alleged attempt.

The boy, 13, was taken into custody as part of a probe into the alleged incident in Kooyong last month, Victoria Police said in a statement.

It is alleged that the boy approached two women near Gardiners Creek and attempted to sexually assault them.

The two women were walking their dogs at time of the incident on July 14.

The dogs were swift to act, chasing away the child and allowing the shaken women to escape the danger.

A man allegedly attempted to sexually assault two women at a Kooyong oval before being fought off and chased into a freeway tunnel by a loyal pack of dogs.

“Over the past five weeks, detectives have pursued multiple lines of inquiry, including information provided by members of the public,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“At approximately 7.30am this morning, detectives executed a search warrant at a residential address in the Boroondara area, where a 13-year-old boy was arrested.

“The boy was taken from his home to a police station and interviewed by detectives.

“He was subsequently released pending further investigation, including inquiries into whether he may be linked to any other reported incidents of a similar nature.

Andrew Wise, acting detective senior sergeant at the Bayside sexual offences and child abuse investigation team thanked members of the public who supported the investigation.

“We received a number of valuable pieces of information from the community, including reports made through Crime Stoppers, which greatly assisted our investigation,” he said.
