MG’s premium electric fastback gets update, special edition inspired by Princess Di’s shoes
The IM L6 , as the MG IM5 is known in China, has received an update including a new longer-range base variant and a special designer edition.
Designer Jimmy Choo joins the likes of Pierre Cardin, Bill Blass, Paul Smith, Carla Zampatti, John Varvatos and others in having his name applied to a production vehicle.
Befitting its premium positioning, Chinese brand IM Motors has collaborated with the Malaysian designer to launch a Prof JimmyChoo limited-edition version of its mildly updated L6.
Crystal-look trim is used both inside and outside the vehicle, including on the fender camera covers.

The ’Haute Couture Blue’ silky pearlescent leather and blue brake calipers are inspired by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, a loyal client of the designer who helped put him on the map by wearing a pair of his blue silk satin high heels.
Only a limited number of the special-edition vehicles will be offered, with some customers receiving “exclusive surprise benefits such as a pair of bespoke shoes”.
The L6’s exterior is largely unchanged, and is offered with a choice of six exterior finishes including Morandi Purple, as well as two interior colourways: Knight Black and Fura Pink.
These battery options replace the existing 74kWh LFP and 100kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) packs, which offer 690km and between 780km and 850km of CLTC range, respectively.
All Chinese-market L6s feature an 800V electrical system allowing DC charging at up to 396kW, while in Australia the base MG IM5 currently has a 400V system and can only be charged at up to 153kW on DC power.
The Prof JimmyChoo limited edition will be offered with the 76kWh and 93kWh batteries.
While IM Motors has not yet released full technical specifications, it has confirmed the flagship Ultra produces 500kW and 800Nm of torque. This is actually a drop of 79kW on the outgoing model, but it’s claimed to offer the same 2.74-second 0-100km/h time.
All L6s gain a standard Bang & Olufsen sound system, while there’s also a new 5.7L ‘intelligent refrigerator’.
IM Motors, like MG, is part of Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor’s portfolio. It was launched in Australia midway through 2025 not as a standalone brand, but rather as a sub-brand under the IM Presented by MG Motor banner.
