Richie checked himself into hospital after falling ill during the Saturday night concert at which he asked for a chair to sit on during his final song , TMZ reported.

Doctors are said to be treating the All Night Long singer for possible dehydration.

A spokesperson for Richie told TMZ he was hoping to be discharged on Tuesday local time.

This comes after a similar incident in June where Richie was hospitalised after a concert in St Paul, Minnesota.

Richie was seen in videos of the concert telling fans he was feeling dizzy and was given a chair to sit on while performing his song Dancing On The Ceiling.

He cancelled several shows after the incident and later revealed he had suffered dehydration.

The Grammy Award winner started his music career as co-lead singer and songwriter for the 1970s funk and soul band The Commodores.

Richie famously wrote hits like Easy and Three Times A Lady for the band before a successful solo career.

He is also famous for his collaborations include duets such as Endless Love with Diana Ross, Lady with Kenny Rogers and 1985 charity single We Are The World with some of America’s biggest pop and rock stars.
