Canadian women’s flag football team books ticket to 2028 Olympics

Canada will have at least one flag football team at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The Canadian women's national team clinched an Olympic berth with a 20-6 semifinal win over world No. 1 Mexico at the flag football world championships in Germany on Saturday.

Caroline Moquin-Joubert scored two touchdowns for Canada in the win, while quarterback Sara Parker finished with a game-high 107 passing yards.

The top two finishers at worlds automatically qualify for a spot at the Olympics.

Canada will go for gold on Sunday in the final against the United States.

The Canadian men will get their chance to join the women in L.A. later on Saturday when they take on Italy in the semifinals at 1:15 p.m. ET.

If the men lose, they could still have a chance at an Olympic berth if the U.S. beats Mexico in the other semifinal.

Because the Americans are hosting, both the men and women automatically qualify for a spot in the Olympic tournament, allowing the third-place team to qualify if either U.S. team makes the final at worlds.
