Humana-Paredes, Wilkerson advance to quarterfinals at Montreal beach volleyball tournament

Defending champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson secured a 2-0 victory at the Montreal Elite stop of the FIVB Beach Pro Tour on Friday.

The Toronto duo sealed the win with a 21-13, 21-18 victory over Brazil’s Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes Pereira Tosta in Pool A play. The Round of 12 and quarterfinals will take place Saturday, with the semifinals and medal matches wrapping up the event Sunday.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson are seeking their third Montreal title after winning in 2023 and 2025. There was no tournament in Montreal in 2024.

Other Canadian women in action included Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse, who fell 2-0 to U.S. pair Donlin and Denaburg (21-10, 21-17). They will face another American duo, Shaw and Phillips, later Friday.

In men’s play, Cameron Chadwick of Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams of Georgetown, Ont., dropped their match to U.S. pair Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh 2-1 (23-21, 21-18, 15-12).

Sam Schachter and Jonny Pickett will face Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho later Friday.
